Acne Prevention

Acne afflicts people of different ages, lifestyles and races. Acne prevention and treatment is an essential concern in almost every household.

Acne prevention is the single most important thing in acne treatment. Acne is not a problem just at the skin surface. Diet plays a major role in acne prevention. The skin is an organ in the body. Acne can develop when there are toxins accumulating from a poor diet. A good diet plays a vital role in acne prevention and eating the wrong foods can make acne worse. In general fried foods and foods high in sugar should be avoided in order to prevent acne. Foods that are detoxifying to the body such as fresh fruits and vegetables should be eaten. A glass of fresh lemonade can help to clear the skin. Drinking plenty of water during the day also helps to cleanse the body and prevent acne.

Other helpful tips on preventing acne include washing the face with a gentle soap and cool water twice a day, in the morning and in the evening. Over washing the face with harsh soaps can dry out the skin and make acne worse.

Squeezing and picking skin should be avoided. This can force bacteria deeper into the skin.

For people suffering from acne cosmetics should be avoided. They can clog pores. If cosmetics are used they should be oil free and used sparingly.

The most important treatment for acne is prevention. The most important over the counter treatment is Benzyl Peroxide Gel. It decreases the bacteria on the skin.

If over the counter products are not affective see your physician. Antibiotic creams are commonly prescribed. When topical medications are not effective enough oral antibiotics are sometimes given.

For sever cystic acne with scarring you need to see a dermatologist.

The best treatment for acne is prevention.
